Like our traditional lightboard and one button studios, our newest dScribe studio was designed and engineered with user friendliness in mind. Here's how to use the dScribe from Revolution. Like our entire suite of products, the dScribe completely powers on with the press of a single button. Within seconds, the integrated windows PC allows users to log in with their organization's preferred network login. The main difference between our traditional lightboards and the dScribe is that the canvas is digital. With the provided stylus, it's easy and intuitive to select different colors, pen styles, and other functions using the touchscreen interface. The digital markings are on an infinite canvas, meaning the presenter can draw without the limitations of the traditional whiteboard. Markings can be easily moved, manipulated, and erased without the need for a physical eraser. The dScribe also leverages our powerful overlay capabilities. You can present within slideshow presentations, web browsers, software, and so much more with our simple drag and drop overlay system. The digital canvas is a mirror of the confidence monitor, so you can directly manipulate anything from a computer as you present. Here's the skeleton kind of zoomed out. The cervical spine is obviously referring to the neck. So we're going to zoom in, and we're going to look at what we would call a typical cervical spine first. So I'm just going to pick C3. So that would be your third cervical vertebrae. And we're going to isolate that because it's easiest to learn about the anatomy if we just take it, and we do what we would call your typical vertebrae. So this is your typical vertebrae in the cervical spine. As you can see, this would be the anterior side. So this would be called your vertebral body. So that's going to be your vertebral body on the anterior side. That holds the weight of the vertebrae above it. And since we're in the cervical spine, it would be the head as well. Then if you look just lateral to the body, we have these holes. Holes in the human body are almost always called foramen or foramina. This is called the vertebral foramen because it holds the vertebral artery as it makes its way from the heart up to the brain. Here, laterally, we have what we would call the transverse processes. The transverse processes are on the lateral side, hence the term transverse. Now as we make our way posterior, we have a canal, the spinal canal. This is where the spinal cord would run if the spinal cord was pictured here. Now let's turn this bad boy and look from the side. So this would be a lateral view as if you were looking at somebody from the side of them. And I want to point you to a couple of structures, namely the facet joints. So this would be called your superior facet joint right there, and this would be called your inferior facet joint right there. And these facet joints articulate or touch the facet joints on the vertebrae that would be above or below it. One thing I want you to little note here, and we'll go over this a little bit more when we talk about mechanics, is there's a 45 degree angle right here. And this 45 degree angle is going to be important when we talk about how much motion our cervical spine has. So remember that 45 number.

Hey friends! So today I am using the Revolution dScribe Studio which is a 55 inch transparent OLED screen that allows me to create content seamlessly. I can write, I can draw things. With a click of a button with this digital inking I am able to delete everything I just wrote on screen. If I made a mistake and I need to bring that back I can easily undo what I just deleted and really gets rid of all of that manual labor of erasing and those markers that dry up after a couple days of recording. With the click of a button I can pull up any website that I want. I can annotate it. This is where I want to go if I want to try to get to the mathematics building from Farron Field that is quite simple. As you can see now I've got an example slide deck pulled up. A black background is essential with white text on top. Also important to format your text onto one side of the screen so that there's room for you to stand. But if I didn't want to be on screen that's totally fine. I can also do that and remove myself completely. So just a lot of really great features here as well as the height adjustable design of the board. A taller instructor is able to adjust it upwards if you want to sit you're able to do that and record as well so that just makes it really accessible to anybody who wants to come in here and use it. Finally the one touch power and recording I think that's really key because you can just come into the studio, press a button— the lights turn on, the microphones on, and you're ready to record. The entire system is super efficient and just making it that much easier for anyone to come in and record their content. Previously, we created a video showing how to use four different programs or pieces of software with the overlay functionality of our traditional lightboard studios. Now, in this video, I'd like to share with you how to use those same programs or very similar formats with the dScribe from Revolution and a maybe potentially more powerful way. The first program is Google Slides. Again, black is made transparent. Whatever else is not black is still seen on the screen with me. Once I go into slideshow mode, I have the ability to see that here. So I'll go ahead and pick up the stylus and talk about the segment length FB. What's amazing now is I can actually see this up in front of me. So I have very good resolution as I make my markings. Again, we can talk about what is the segment length of FB. Next we have Desmos graphing calculator. With this one, of course we need to change the color scheme. So there's reverse contrast. I can now have the ability to see this x y axis directly in front of me here. So let's talk about the ordered pair (2,2) and maybe the ordered pair (-2,-2). And now we can talk about the line that goes between them. I can see this x y graph in front of me which is super fun and engaging. As always if I wanted to we can move that window snap over window snap left right. So then you can even see both programs at the same time. Next on the list is going to be a spreadsheet. Today we're using Microsoft Office. Again default is white cells. Let's go ahead and make those all black. And now if I was to go in here, one thing we do need to remember. Change the font color to the opposite, which is white. So we can do six. We can do five. And let's go ahead and add those two together. And voila. We can even annotate and talk about how we got from here to here, just by simply adding them. So that is a spreadsheet tool Excel. Lastly, we've got a PHET simulation that we would say is one of our favorites here at Revolution. Let's talk about gases and how they interact with a space. We've got a number of different parameters to change here to see how the elements, how they respond. All this can be done with the dScribe from Revolution utilizing our plug and play, our drag and drop overlay system. As always, if you have any questions, be sure to reach out.

A common question is, "What does Revolution provide as part of the dScribe Studio?" Ultimately, it's easier for us to say what we will not send you, and there's three of those things. And that can be said for all of our studios. We will send you everything you need for the studio, except for the room, the power, and the Internet. While we can coach you on how to go about these three items, we can't provide you those. What we do provide, again, is everything you're going to need for the studio, except for those three that I wrote on the board. This will include the high adjustable table that the studio lives on, the camera, microphone, applicable monitors, and much more. Let us know what you have for more questions.

What Size Room Do I Need?

A great starting point is 10×10 ft with 9-foot ceilings. Send Revolution a photo of your room and they'll help position the studio perfectly for your space.

We often get asked, "What size of room does the dScribe Studio fit into?" We say some great starting dimensions is 10 foot by 10 foot. And then ultimately, ideally, we'd have nine foot ceilings that the dScribe Studio would be put into. There are a number of different situations of rooms that the dScribe Studio can fit into, but these are some great starting dimensions. In those cases, when we have customers that have a specific room that they have in mind, we say, "Go ahead and send us a picture." Oftentimes, that way we can call out, "Hey, this is how we'd like to see the studio position." Maybe look out for something on the wall, or, "Hey, maybe we want to get it closer to that outlet." When we need to be more specific, we actually have them even create a schematic for us. So then that way we can talk about, "This is how we would recommend the dScribe be positioned in the space." So that way, it's easier for users to get behind it.

How Do I Erase?

Two options: hit delete to clear everything at once, or erase individual elements and keep what you want. It's that simple.

How do you erase on the dScribe Studio? After finishing your best looking pyramid, it's time to erase to move on to something different. We've got two options with the dScribe Studio. You can simply hit delete and the whole thing goes away. Or the second option is you can erase and remove individual components. So then that way you can add some color to it instead. But that's it. That's how simple it is to erase on the dScribe Studio.

Lightboard vs. dScribe — Key Differences

Digital ink and visible overlays are the two major differences. dScribe eliminates the learning curve of traditional lightboards and brings content into a format as familiar as a tablet.

What are the main differences between traditional Lightboard Studios and the dScribe Studio from Revolution? While there are a handful of different minor or smaller changes or differences between the two, there are two major differences. Number one is that we are leveraging digital ink with the dScribe Studio. Because it's digital, there are some amazing things that we can do with it, including having really vivid colors, endless color choices. We do refine it down to a set number. We have simple things like the ability to lasso it, move it around the screen if you want to, and the options just continue, including bringing in lines or rectangles. Erasing is also a major difference. Click a button as opposed to grabbing a cloth. So digital ink is the first major difference between traditional Lightboard Studios and the dScribe Studio. The second is visible overlays. Or in other words, when you are attempting to bring in a slideshow to combine it with your handwritten content that is in the familiar Lightboard format, you immediately get the excitement of seeing it directly in front of you. With traditional Lightboard Studios, this typically would be done by referencing a monitor so that way you know where your hand or your marker is relative to it. But because we're using the dScribe, I'm seeing this image directly in front of me here, which completely eliminates the learning curve and brings it into a familiar format that you might experience with a smart board or tablet or a phone and you have immediate visibility to it to engage with it whether you're gesturing behind it or using the digital ink with it. Do I Need to Write Backwards?

No — write with your dominant hand just like a tablet or phone. The dScribe automatically flips the image so it reads correctly to your audience.

A reasonable question to ask is, "Do I have to write backwards on the dScribe?" Good news is you do not have to write backwards. When writing your name, you get to use whatever your dominant hand is. The system will left right flip it so that way it's readable to the audience or your live call. With the dScribe you get to use vivid colors in a familiar format as if you're using your phone or a tablet which is readily available today.

Can I Capture What I've Drawn?

Yes — because dScribe uses digital ink, a single tool lets you screenshot everything you've drawn and bring it back into your presentation or share it with your audience.

Is it possible to capture what I've drawn on the dScribe Studio? Absolutely, it is. Opposite of traditional lightboards, where it's a physical marker that has to be erased, the dScribe Studio leverages digital ink. And because of that, we have a very simple tool that allows you to quickly screenshot everything that you've drawn. And after a quick erase with the press of delete, I have the ability to bring that screenshot right back into my presentation or have it available for review for my audience or students afterwards.
